EARLY DETECTION OF SKIN CANCERS CAN SAVE LIVES
Many skin cancers can be self-discovered
- Become familiar with your skin
- Check all areas of your skin, including skin not usually exposed to sun
- Look for changes in shape, colour and size
- Ask others to check difficult to see areas like your back
Use the ABCD rule to examine your skin
- A= Asymmetry: look to see if one half of the spot matches the other
- B= Border: look to see if the spot has uneven borders. A melanoma is often flat with an uneven smudgy outline
- C= Colour: look to see if the spot has an unusual or uneven colour – brown, black, blue, grey or red
- D= Diameter: look for spots that are larger than 7mm
Book in with your GP for a skin check before the warmer weather starts.
